Charity Golf Day - The Best Result Yet!
C.H.A.N.C.E for NEPAL Charity Golf Day at WILDWOOD GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB held on the 9th September raised a staggering £17,595 of which £4,325 was a donation.
This was our fourth consecutive golf event at the magnificent Wildwood Championship Golf Club. We all enjoyed lovely weather, a slight breeze, making conditions most favorable for the 76 golfers teeing off at 1.00pm in a shotgun start. Teams of four from as far away as Bristol and London came to play and everyone enjoyed a great day.
Whilst enjoying pre dinner drinks in the bar, Richard Kettle an amazing magician whom had everyone spellbound, especially me, entertained guests!
In the evening we had an additional 47 dinner guests who set down to a fabulous four-course dinner. After dinner I gave a brief talk on how the projects we are involved in are going out in Nepal, then followed the main Auction of Promises. This alone raised £7,290, far outweighing expectations. The star auction promise of pre theatre dinner for two at the fabulous Francos Restaurant followed by two of Joanna Lumley’s personal seats to see her in the forth-coming production of ‘The Lion in Winter’ at The Theatre Royal, Haymarket raised the fabulous sum of £1,100. The successful bidder and partner of this promise are then invited to Joanna’s dressing room to share in a glass or two of Champagne – Wow!
David Smail who has been a staunch supporter of C.H.A.N.C.E for many years kindly accepted my invitation to be the auctioneer for the night and did a brilliant job in attracting keen bidding throughout. We also had a silent auction running through the day.
To round off the evening prize giving and the drawing of the raffle then followed this. Wildwood once again pulled out all the stops to make this a wonderful day for everyone.
If you would like to put your name down for 2012 please contact us through the website. The date for your diary is the 14th September.
Edmund O'Reilly Hyland raises £2,370 for C.H.A.N.C.E. for Nepal
Edmund O'Reilly Hyland set himself a personal challenge to swim 2000 lengths of his local competition swimming pool between June and October 2010 for C.H.A.N.C.E for NEPAL. Edmund pledged £1.50 per length. Sadly, nearing the end of October, Edmund suffered a detached retina and had to halt all swimming activity for the rest of the year. However, he managed to raise a magnificent sum of £2,370. Edmund has risen to the challenge again and will endeavour to beat his 2010 achievement during 2011.
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor him. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. Edmund really would appreciate your support. Click http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/EdmundOReillyHyland THANK YOU!
Our Charity Golf Day on the 4th June 2010 raised £10,400.
A donation of £2,500 brought the total to £12,900.
The sun shone brightly, with blue skies and a gentle breeze, which gave the most perfect conditions for our third consecutive golf day at Wildood Golf and Country Club in Alfold, Surrey.
Sixty golfers played on Wildwood's fabulous championship course where the greens were in perfect condition for the event. After their 18 holes, with a Pimms and Danish half way stop, the golfers came in for a shower and change and were met in the bar for pre dinner drinks by a further 30 extra dinner guests for a fabulous four course dinner. The prize giving and auction followed with a speech from Dr Ines von Rosenstiel, the founder of Medical Checks for Children, who had flown over from Amsterdam for the event.
Maurice Hamilton, broadcaster, author and motor racing correspondent did a fine job as the auctioneer and the auction raised £5,670. The highlight of which, was the chance to sip a glass of champagne with Joanna Lumley who is appearing in La Bete at the Comedy Theatre in the West End, after her performance.

Trustees
We are delighted to welcome Edmund O'Reilly Hyland who was appointed a trustee on the 1st February 2011. Edmund has been a staunch supporter of C.H.A.N.C.E for NEPAL for many years.
With regret, C.H.A.N.C.E for NEPAL said farewell to Ken Rushton, a most valued trustee who stepped down in July 2010 after over three years as a trustee. Ken resigned to pursue his other interests but is keen to support our future fund raisng events. Ken visited Nepal in 2007.
Kate Fernandes was appointed a trustee in April 2009. Kate is the editor of the Challenger Magazine and has been supportive of C.H.A.N.C.E. for Nepal for several years. Each month she provides free advertising space to C.H.A.N.C.E. for Nepal where we are constantly looking for educational sponsors for two schools in Kathmandu. To date 17 children have received sponsorship and are all thriving.

It is with great sadness I announce my dear friend and valued trustee, Mike Telford, has sadly passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer. Mike has been a trustee of C.H.A.N.C.E since its conception and a tremendous support throughout. He was generous with his time and efforts in our fund-raising events and generous to a fault in the auctions in which he so generously donated many of the auction lots. I have known Mike for 15 years, he was the first person I approached when looking for trustees. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
