I am sure you will have seen the heartbreaking footage of the catastrophic flooding that has devastated the busy tourist crossing on the border of Tibet and Nepal.
The flooding has caused massive destruction, particularly across Rasuwa and Nuwakot. Thousands of people are missing, the death toll is rising by the hour, and countless families have lost loved ones, their homes and their livelihoods. Roads and bridges were swept away within seconds.
Relief efforts have reached the worst-affected areas and are working around the clock searching for survivors, but this will be a long and difficult process.
CHANCE is supporting our trusted, long-term partners, Mountain Heart Nepal (MHN) – is a team of volunteer doctors who act as first responders during times of crisis. Two medical teams have already been deployed and are in the worst areas of devastation.
Dr Aban, MHN’s founder, has asked CHANCE to urgently help provide tents and ground mats for shelter, while survivors are desperately in need of food, clean drinking water and essential toiletries.
……. and Grassroot Movement in Nepal (GMIN) who we have worked closely for over 12 years building schools in remote areas of Western Nepal. Both are working closely with the Nepalese Army and government authorities to ensure these humanitarian essentials reach the communities most in need.
CHANCE has sent £8,000, and we hope to raise at least twice that amount in the coming days.
By supporting our trusted partners on the ground – with their local knowledge, established contacts and first-hand understanding of the affected communities – we can help ensure that your donations make the greatest possible impact. As the days and weeks unfold and a clearer picture emerges, we will continue to assess the situation and respond to the most urgent needs. If you can donate, please use the bank details below:
