On the 30th April 2023 we held out first on-line auction. Our fabulous patron, Dame Joanna Lumley introduced the auction via a video link. The auction was to raise funds for an x-ray machine for the Siddhasthali Rural Community Hospital in Hetauda, (a 5-hour drive SW from Kathmandu).
The star auction lot which attracted keen bidding were cocktails and canapés with Joanna at the fabulous “One Aldwych’ followed by a Champagne dinner after which, the successful bidders enjoyed an overnight stay in a deluxe suite. We raised £19,829 in total from the event with CHANCE donating a further £10,000 bringing the amount needed for the x-ray machine.
Dr Aban Gautam had a dream to build a hospital of excellence to treat everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, thereby offering free treatment to those most in need. Now aged 33, with sheer determination and grit; in spite of the added interruption of Covid for two years, the construction of the hospital was completed in October and opened by the Minister of Health.
