SHREE CHOKUNEY SCHOOL – KUMALA, Surkhet

We are delighted to introduce our 8th school which has been made possible by a generous donation of £6,000 from Rosy and Peter Gent, this being the third school building they have supported through CHANCE. The total construction cost was £9,450 and CHANCE funded the remaining £3450 for the four classrooms. Surkhet lies 650 kms west of Kathmandu.

This is a government school which goes from nursery to Grade 10 and has 447 students. Most schools in the area only go to Garde 8, so there is a further intake from other schools after Grade 8. Each of our four classrooms will take 35 children from Grade 2 – 5.

Presently the children are on holiday after their end of year exams and will be back at school next week. The new school year in Nepal runs from April.

We also would like to thank Bidya Bajracharya – GMIN Nepal’s president for supervising the construction and survey and finding this village that needed a new school building.
