Physical classes have recently resumed in most schools and colleges in Nepal. There is mounting pressure for physical classes for the students mental well being and learning. Yet, the virus is spreading rapidly which may result in closure once again! In a remote village in the video below, some children now have WiFi to access on line classes!

Thank you BVS for your monthly report on the children admitted to the burns unit in November. There were 11 children admitted. All received a weekly nutritional food basket and goody bag. All tragic accidents which could well affect the child’s life forever.
Sajina is aged 6 and lives with her parents. Her father is a labourer and suffers from alcoholism. Her mother a housewife. They are temporarily living in Bhaktapur, 18 kms from the city centre. Due to the coronavirus, her father has lost his job and their economic condition is very poor.
Her mother was in the kitchen and Sujina was playing with her friends nearby. Their tenant was burning garbage outside when something in the garbage exploded and fell onto Sajina. She suffered 5-7% burns to her face and hands. Her mother heard her cry out and immediately took her to the Siddhi Hospital in Bhaktapur where she received first-aid treatment but it was decided she needed the specialised burns unit at the Kanti Children’s Hospital. She has made a good recovery and has been discharged.
Ritu is 18 months old, an only child. She lives with her mother in Kathmandu. Her father is a businessman in the US. Ritu’s mother had made herself a cup of tea and placed it on a raised slab to cool. Ritu was playing close by and grabbed the cup, the contents spilled on to her face, neck and chest. Her mother heard her cry out and poured cold water over the burns and and rushed her to the nearest hospital, where they dressed her wounds. The next day she was transferred to the specialised burns unit at the Kanti Children’s hospital where she is still undergoing treatment.
Sujan is aged 5 and lives with his mother, step-father and three siblings in Kathmandu. His step father is a labourer and mother a housewife. Sujan suffered 20%, 2nd degree burns to his neck and face, hand, chest, stomach and right knee. His parents separated when he was younger and his mother married again. Their financial situation is very poor.
His step-father was cooking lentil soup on a low stove. Sujan was playing nearby and tumbled into the hot pot of soup. His father immediately removed his clothes and poured cold water on the wounded area. After that, he was taken to the nearby medical centre where he received a dressing. After 2 days, he was brought to the Kanti children’s hospital for further treatment.
Sakina is 17 months old and lives with her parents and 8-year-old brother in Gorkha, which lies 145kms from Kathmandu. She suffered 5%, 2nd degree burns to her face, neck and chest. Her mother had boiled water and put it in a flask. She went outside to do some chores and Sakina was playing and knocked the flask which hadn't a top on over herself. Her mother applied Aloe Vera to the burnt area and she was taken directly to hospital in Gorkha for treatment. The next day her condition had worsened and she was flown by helicopter to the Kanti.
Pushpa is two and a half years old, an only child and lives with his mother and grandparents in Sindhupalchowk, 93 kms from Kathmandu. He suffered 20%, 2nd degree burns to his lower body. His father is a migrant worker who has been working in Saudi for the past two years, sending money home for his family. His mother had prepared buffalo fodder and left it by the door to cool. Pushpa was playing nearby and fell into the hot vessel of fodder. He was taken to a nearby medical centre where he received daily dressings for 6 days. His wounds became infected so he was brought to the burns unit at the Kanti in an ambulance.
All names changed for protection and permission was given to tell their stories.

We are delighted to see the completion of our 4th school built by GMIN Nepal, our long term partner on the ground in Nepal.
My thanks go to Peter and Rosy Gent who donated £6,250 including gift aid and to Jatinder Dosanjh, Tim Young, Balaji Seevaram, Sanjay Kits Sharma, Rick M, Vivek Narasimhan, Raghava Lingegowda, Kumaran Chandrababu and Velraj Huppusamy, 9 guys who all came together in October 2019 to trek to Everest base camp and raised a £6,035 for our projects. From their fantastic efforts, we used £3,750 to make up the £10,000 needed to build this block of four new classrooms which will be known as the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary block - Being the first to climb Everest in May 1953.
Because of the pandemic and long lockdowns over many months the building of this school was plagued by delay after delay. Now finally completed it will be a great asset to the school and the children, with winter fast approaching they will now have classrooms instead of taking lessons outside. Great work GMIN as always 💕 ... See MoreSee Less
Thank you so much Ashley for your efforts to make this happen! 💕 Dr Aban and MHN are so thankful for this wonderful gift. I would like to say a massive thank you to all those who donated to your birthday fundraiser, a great tribute to YOU Ashley for the kind and generous person you are. 💗Hello lovely people! 😍 Here’s the exciting news 📰 I promised about our fundraising efforts for Chance for Nepal 💛
CHANCE are of course involved in loads of wonderful efforts and projects in Nepal 🇳🇵and the brilliant thing about Barbara Datson is that she really tries to involve her fundraisers where possible to help decide on the application of funds.
Looking at the different projects CHANCE for Nepal is involved in, for this fundraiser I was keen to support the new hospital 🏥 being built in Hetauda with Mountain Heart Nepal 🏔❤️🇳🇵
I asked Barbara how I could be involved. She asked Dr Aban Gautam the founder of MHN, who suggested an incubator 👶🏽would be a wonderful asset for the hospital which will undoubtedly save many lives. Barbara had applied elsewhere for a grant to fund this but sadly was not successful.
Well lovely people, this is where we come in! I am delighted to report that our efforts are going to provide that INCUBATOR to the new hospital. I just cannot tell you how happy this makes me 😌 I don’t have children of my own, many of you know the area within which I work, and at half a century I feel this is a really wonderful legacy, to be able to save lots of babies! 👶🏽👶🏻👶🏼 Thank you so much for your donations towards this wonderful cause 🤗 Much love Ashley ❤️🧡💛 ... Sapana, a wonderful school where the teachers explore all possibilities of learning with the children, including cooking, gardening, environmental studies and meditation to name a few. The children’s social skills are a joy to watch. Through CHANCE we have four children being sponsored who come from a very poor and disadvantaged home. The other 50% of children come from families who can afford to pay for this brilliant education. The result is a non judgemental , socially mixing in a natural way without prejudice from a very early age. I have visited Sapana school many times over the years, it is such a happy place to be - exceptional. ... See MoreSee Less

I am sharing this post below from Bidya Bajracharya, the President of GMIN (Grassroot Movement in Nepal). GMIN is one of our main partners in Nepal.
CHANCE does not have the funds available right now to help this man. We are in the throws of funding two new school buildings, one is soon to be completed before Christmas and the other will be started in January.
I thus share Bidya's post in the hope there may be someone who would like to help 🙏❤️ The cost would be £1,665. ... See MoreSee Less
On this day a year ago I spent the day at Papa’s on my annual visit to see the children. It was Saturday, so wash day. When you have no washing machine and 23 sets of school uniform to wash, this becomes a mammoth operation. Here we are exactly a year later, still no washing machine and no school either as in lockdown since March 26th! This has had a devastating effect on the education system in Nepal. Have the sound on!
My heart aches as it’s not possible for me to visit this year due to the pandemic. ... See MoreSee Less

Thank you BVS (Burns Violence Survivors) for your monthly report of October.
There were 10 children on the ward and all received a high protein weekly food basket which aids healing and a ‘goody bag’ with a soft toy, and other goodies targeted at the age of the child plus a toothbrush, Dettol. CHANCE has been funding food baskets and goody bags on the burns unit for over 12 years. Along with physio and counselling for the family when appropriate. BVS do a truly outstanding job and Chance feels privileged to be part of their work at the Kanti Children’s Hospital.
Tensin is 10 months and lives with his parents in Kathmandu. He is an only child. His father is a driver and his mother a housewife. Tensin suffered 18% - 2nd degree burns to the lower part of his body. His mother had plugged in an electric kettle to boil and had gone outside for a few moments to bring in the washing. Tensin pulled on the electric cord of the kettle and water spilled out onto him. His mother applied aloe-vera and he was rushed to hospital for first aid treatment. After two days his condition deteriorated and he was brought to the burns unit at the Kanti. He is in a stable condition undergoing treatment.
Sonu is aged 6 and lives with his mother and brother, aged 9 in Nawalparasi which lies 225kms from Kathmandu. His father is a migrant worker in Qatar.
Sonu was with his brother playing inside and his mother was working in the field. Their tenant had boiled water on an open fire to clean mutton. Sonu was next to the hot water and tripped and fell into the bucket of hot water. His mother ran home and poured cold water onto the burn and he was rushed to a health post.. He was then transferred to a local hospital but due to lack of facilities for serious burns was brought to the Kanti by ambulance which would have taken many hours! He is stable and will need surgery. His mother and uncle are with him in hospital.
Noma lives with her parents and older sister in Dhading which lies 50kms from Kathmandu. Noma suffered 20% -2nd degree burns to her hands, arms and chest.
They lived in Pokhara but her father lost his job due to Covid-19, so they moved to Kathmandu to look for work.
Noma was sitting close to the hot water tank on a tractor coming back from market with her parents. Suddenly the hot water tank split open and the hot water spilled onto Noma hands and chest. Her parents jumped off the tractor and escaped injury. Her father removed her clothes and she was taken to a local hospital for first aid treatment. Because of the severity of her burn, she was transferred to the Kanti. She is stable and undergoing treatment.
Sushil is 18 months old and comes from Dharding which lies 50kms from Kathmandu. His father has a butchers and his mother is a housewife. They have a daughter aged 9. Sushil suffered 5% -1st degree burns to his leg.
On the day of the accident, his mother was at home doing chores and Sushil was in his father’s butcher’s shop. His father had heated water on an open fire to clean the chicken meat. His father left him unattended, just for a minute and Sushil put his leg in the fire. He father immediately applied aloe-vera on the burn and took him to a first aid post where he was given treatment. After 19 days his wound became infected and he was then referred to the Kanti burns unit. He is being monitored and having daily dressings. He is stable.
All these accidents so tragic happened in a split second, which will be life changing for these children.
